A judge sentenced Earl Glenn Washington, 34, of Lubbock to 70 years in prison. The judge found there was no remorse and his crime involved gang violence.
A jury found Washington guilty last week for the shooting death of John Wilkerson in September of 2007. Washington’s defense is that another man pulled the trigger.
Another man, Patrick Davis, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of tampering with evidence in 2009 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Prosecutors told the jury that Washington was still culpable because he not only participated in the shooting, he also initiated it.
There was evidence that the murder was the result of street gang dispute between the Bloods and Crips.
