IDALOU, Texas — Around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, emergency crews responded to a serious accident on Highway 62/82 in Idalou.
According to emergency scanners, the Jaws of Life were called to the scene to help get someone trapped out of a pickup truck, and one person was taken to the hospital.
The Texas Department of Public Safety later provided an update and said Arcadio Hernandez, Jr., 42, of Lorenzo suffered “serious/incapacitating” injuries. He was taken to University Medical Center.
DPS said Hernandez was driving a pickup truck and crossed over the center line of 62/82. The pickup truck struck a semi-truck, DPS. The semi driver was not hurt.
A spokesman for DPS told EverythingLubbock.com that Hernandez had just gotten off work, and might have fallen asleep behind the wheel.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were blocked for a time.
