Volunteer firefighters from Idalou, Roosevelt, Ranson Canyon, Buffalo Springs, West Carlisle, Lubbock, and New Deal were called to the 5200 block of East County Road 6420 just after 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The location is just outside the northeast city limits of Lubbock.
Initially it was thought two houses were on fire, but when the smoke cleared it turned out to be one house and one storage unit.
Neighbors were seen leaving the area because of the heavy smoke. Neighbors said they believe the two structures were vacant, but officials have not confirmed that information yet.
We have unconfirmed reports that a firefighter was injured.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.
