Despite the beautiful weather Saturday, several grass fires were reported across Lubbock County.
One of the larger fires was reported just east and southeast of Abernathy Saturday afternoon.
This fire occurred in the area of Farm-to-Market Road 579 and North County Road 2800.
The Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department, the New Deal Volunteer Fire Department and the Idalou Fire Department all responded to the fire.
Our photojournalist reported fire crews were able to stop the fire before it crossed the roadway.
The fire was producing a large amount of smoke that could be seen from Lubbock.
Crews were still working on this fire late Saturday afternoon.
Keep in mind Lubbock County is under a burn ban.
