Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe said a suspect has confessed to the murder of Katrina Castillo, 20.
Castillo was found dead Monday in the backyard of a home in the 4200 block of East 2nd Street. The medical examiner said the cause of death was “multiple sharp force injuries,” and the sheriff said she was murdered with “a knife-type weapon.”
On Wednesday, the sheriff said Xavier Garcia, 20, was a person of interest in the case.

Garcia was arrested Tuesday night for a violation of his deferred adjudication case from 2017. (See the related link, below.)
The sheriff said the man who confessed was found Tuesday night in Castillo’s car. Video from EverythingLubbock.com showed sheriff’s deputies searching the car at 50th Street and Bangor Avenue.
The sheriff said it does not appear to be a random act of violence; there was a relationship between the two prior to the murder, he said.
