Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Burns filed a lawsuit Monday against Tanner Green for a vehicle crash on January 11, 2016 at 89th Street and Milwaukee Avenue. Cujo’s Sports Bar & Grill in the 5800 block of 4th Street was also named in the lawsuit.
A criminal case related to the crash was still pending against Green, 31, as of Tuesday for aggravated assault. Burns was critically injured. According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department, he has returned to duty.
“While at Cuju’s, [Green] consumed a large amount of intoxicating beverages and was served alcohol while he was obviously intoxicated and a danger to himself and the public at large,” the lawsuit said.
“Green was operating his vehicle while highly intoxicated and caused serious bodily injuries to [Burns],” the lawsuit said.
Green’s pickup truck hit Burn’s patrol vehicle, according to official statements at the time. Green “fled the scene” according to the lawsuit. Green was later found and arrested. As of Tuesday, Green was out of jail on bond.
The lawsuit seeks more than a million dollars.
Green’s attorney chose not to comment. A manager for Cujo’s chose not to comment at this time.
