A grand jury accused Derrick Lee Hargrave, 21, (also known as Derrick Westbrook) for sexual assault of a child.

In May, Slaton Police were told about a sexual relationship between Hargrave and a 14-year-old girl.  At first the girl told her mom she only kissed and cuddled with Hargrave.  The mom looked at messages on the girl’s phone and questioned the girl again.  The mom called police, and the girl told officials she had sex with Hargrave on two occasions.

She told officials that she left two rings and some notebooks in a shed where she said she was with Hargrave.  Police looked inside the shed and found items where she said they would be.

Officials conducted a sexual assault exam, the results of which were not described in court records.

Court records indicated a specific address for Hargrave in Slaton.  The jail roster listed him as homeless.  He was arrested on July 27, and since that time he has been held in the Lubbock County Detention Center in lieu of a $20,000 bond.

Court records said Hargrave was adopted and Westbrook was his former name. The charge against him is a second-degree felony.
