WHAT:                        
Smithfield Foods and United Supermarkets will donate more than 40,000 pounds of protein to South Plains Food Bank in Lubbock as part of Smithfield’s Helping Hungry Homes® initiative. This considerable donation provides more than 160,000 servings of protein, a staple of a well-balanced meal, to people across the South Plains. In this area, one in seven people faces hunger every day.

A brief press conference will take place to help raise awareness of hunger and discuss the significance of protein donations in helping community members become more food secure.

Helping Hungry Homes® is Smithfield Foods’ initiative focused on alleviating hunger and helping Americans become more food secure. This donation is a part of the initiative’s annual nationwide tour, which will provide significant protein donations to nearly 60 food banks across the country this year.
