What might have otherwise been a theft at the Sonic Drive-In, 7220 Quaker Avenue, has instead become an aggravated robbery investigation.

At about 1:30 Thursday afternoon, police were called.

An LPD supervisor on scene said a Sonic carhop knew she was about to get run over as the suspect vehicle was trying to leave.  So, instead she chose to jump onto the hood.  She traveled on the hood of the suspect-vehicle to the intersection of 74th and Quaker. That’s where she was able to get off safely.

Police said, “she’s okay.”

LPD said the suspect vehicle is a white Kia Optima.  Police said four suspects were in the car.

About 90 minutes after the incident, LPD released the following statement:

On Thursday, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Lubbock Police Officers responded to reports of a robbery that had just occurred at the Sonic Drive-in located at 7220 Quaker Avenue.

Initial information indicates four individuals in a white Kia passenger car ordered food from the restaurant. Officers were advised one of the individuals attempted to pay for the food with a stolen credit card. When the card would not work, the individuals began to leave without paying for the food. An employee who was in front of the car jumped on the hood to avoid being run over as the car sped away. The employee was carried on top of the hood for approximately one block. When the car stopped, the employee jumped off and the car sped away. The employee was not injured.

At this time the four suspects have not been located. The driver is a female and all four are believed to be Hispanic.
