The following is a news release from the South Plains Homeless Consortium:

The South Plains Homeless Consortium will be hosting its first ever Speaker Series on Friday April 5th. The goal of the Speaker Series is to raise community-wide awareness about homelessness and to provide information on resources being provided to the homeless population in our community.

“Bringing community-wide awareness to the issue of homelessness is a priority of the South Plains Homeless Consortium. We strongly feel that by working together we can help identify homeless issues and collectively work to prevent and end homelessness,” Ashley Ammons, President of the South Plains Homeless Consortium.

The event will feature motivational speaker TShane Johnson. TShane runs from coast to coast to inspire the homeless, veterans, communities, and raise awareness about veteran suicides. His journey covers over 3,000 miles and 9 states. He has spoken in 20 cities, passing out over 10,000 hygiene kits to those in need and raising over $50,000 in non-profit funds in just 65 days.

In addition, the South Plains Homeless Consortium will announce results from the 2019 Point-in-Time count that took place on January 24th. The Point-in-Time count is a national campaign where cities across the country attempt to count the homeless population in their communities, to be able to advocate for more resources.

The Speaker Series luncheon will be held from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the MCM Elegante at 801 Ave Q and early bird pricing is $25 for SPHC members and $35 for non-members. This price includes lunch. The price increases by $5 on the day of the event.
