Southcrest Christian School, has won their first 2A TAPPS State Cross Country Meet on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas. This is a first for Southcrest Christian since the program began six years ago. The past two seasons, Southcrest placed third in Class 2A and 1A, respectively.
“We were looking to win a state championship, that was the goal,” said Southcrest Christian head coach Dale Underwood, who has been at the helm the past three years. “They ran well in meets, but you just never know how things will go until you get out there and run.”
Alex Spencer (Sophomore), of Southcrest Christian, led the way with a fourth-place finish (18:02.40) and made All State. Jacob Kidder (Freshman) followed close behind before crossing the line at the 18:54.60 mark, finishing eleventh. Stepehen Hunt, a junior, finished 15th out of 100 runners. Stephen also achieved the honor of Academic All State.
In the Girl’s 2A race, Nina Rodriquez (Freshman) of Southcrest, finished fifth and achieved the All State Honor. Molli Loudder (Senior) placed 15th out of 95 runners and achieving the honor of Academic All State.
For the first time in the Cross Country Program, Southcrest Christian girls place sixth in State Competition.
Congratulations to Coach Dale Underwood for his first state championship. Coach Underwood has coached Cross Country and Track for 47 years with the last seven years at Southcrest Christian School.
