Registration is open for the third annual Tech to Town, an event designed by Texas Tech University students as a service project to say “thank you” to the city of Lubbock for all the community does for the university. The day of service will be April 7.
“Tech to Town is a great way to showcase how much we appreciate the city of Lubbock and its support for Texas Tech,” said Robbie Myer, Student Government Association (SGA) president. “The student body is very willing to help keep our city clean and positively contribute where we’re needed. This is an amazing opportunity for us to show how much Lubbock means to Texas Tech.”
This year, the event is a collaborative effort of Student Union & Activities, SGA, the Office of the President and the Volunteer Center of Lubbock. Students, faculty and staff can participate in various service opportunities, including helping local animal shelters, beautifying parks and assisting foster families.
“Our office is looking forward to the annual Tech to Town event,” said Avery Martinez, SGA external vice president. “We take pride knowing our student body is willing to support the Lubbock community, and we hope to see this event grow in the years to come.”
Following Tech to Town, participants will be invited to a celebration with free food, activities and a concert featuring Grammy award-winning country music artist Hunter Hayes. Food and games will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Urbanovsky Park.
Transportation will be provided to and from Tech to Town projects. Everyone who checks in and participates in Tech to Town will be entered to win a meet-and-greet pass to meet Hayes prior to the performance.
“Tech to Town is an awesome opportunity for Red Raiders to come together and serve the community,” said Kelsey Jackson, advisor for the Student Activities Board and Tech to Town. “It’s a way to say ‘Thank you’ to Lubbock.”
