A former substitute teacher from Snyder was sentenced Friday to nearly five years in prison.
Malcom Douglass Crawford pleaded guilty in May to making a false statement to a federal agent.
Earlier this year the FBI was investigating a child pornography case. An FBI agent confronted Crawford about an iPad he used while working as a substitute teacher at Snyder High School.
Court records said Crawford replaced the original iPad with another one and then lied to an FBI agent about the original iPad.
The original iPad was thrown into the trash and never recovered according to court records. The iPad was relevant to “possible possession of child pornography,” court records said.
Crawford remained free on Friday. He was ordered to surrender to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons no later than 2:00 p.m. on October 6.
The case was prosecuted in federal court in Lubbock. The exact sentence was 57 months and Crawford must also serve three years of supervised release after his prison time.
