The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement:

Hockley County Fugitive Taken Into Custody

A fugitive wanted on a felony Hockley County warrant was taken into custody after a brief standoff earlier this afternoon. Randy Juarez, 36, of Anton, was arrested by agents from the United States Marshal’s Service and deputies from the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were notified by federal agents that Juarez was in a residence in the 600 block of Main Street in Anton and responded to assist. After initially refusing to exit the residence, Juarez surrendered to law enforcement officers and was taken into custody without further incident.

As a precaution, the campus at Anton Independent School District was notified and was placed on a temporary lockdown until the situation was resolved.

“Anytime there is a situation like this it is taken seriously and every precaution must be taken to minimize the threat to the public. Fortunately, and thanks to the professionalism and cooperation with the Marshal’s Service, the situation ended peacefully and without further incident,” commented Sheriff Ray Scifres.

Juarez was transported to the Hockley County Jail and released into the custody of jail personnel related to the warrant for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon, and Possession of Marijuana (Revocation of Probation). Bonds are set at a total of $30,000.
