Jordan Clay Burrell, 22, was sentenced Wednesday to 50 years in prison for aggravated robbery. In 2016, he had been sentenced to 38 years, but an unusual twist of events led to his sentence being extended.

In September of 2015, deputies with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office were called to an address in far Western Lubbock County along C.R. 6900.  Deputies found a 67-year-old man had been hit with a pipe.

Officials later said Burrell hit the man while demanding money.  Burrell apologized in court in 2016 and was sentenced to 38 years.  Burrell appealed and won.

After the appeal but before his second trial, Burrell was recorded in a jail phone call.  He was heard saying in a jail recording he should have killed the victim.  The judge found that Burrell lacked remorse and so the sentence was 50 years instead of 38.
