The following is a press release from Lubbock Police:

An arrest warrant for aggravated assault on a peace officer has been served for 34-year-old Shawn Boyett in connection to a domestic disturbance Monday evening.

On July 16th, just before 4 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call of a domestic disturbance between a mother and her adult son, Shawn Boyett, at a home in the 2000 block of 49th Street. Two Lubbock Police Department officers responded to the scene to investigate.

The mother told officers she had been assaulted, and she wanted Boyett removed from her home. She gave officers permission to enter the house. Officers opened the front door and gave commands from the doorway for Boyett to come out of the house.

Boyett pulled out a knife and refused to cooperate with the officer’s commands to leave the house. One of the officers attempted to use a less lethal option to subdue him and deployed his taser. As soon as the taser was used, Boyett charged the officers at which point an officer fired his gun. Boyett was struck twice in the right hip and thigh area.

Immediately, the officer secured the knife and began providing life saving measures to include applying a tourniquet to stop the bleeding until paramedics could arrive. Boyett was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center with serious injuries where he remains in stable condition.

Detectives with the Persons Crimes Unit are investigating the shooting and the circumstances behind the original call concerning a domestic disturbance. An internal investigation including a shooting review board will also be conducted, which is standard procedure.

Boyett could face additional charges related to the domestic disturbance.
