On Friday, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspects who were arrested after a chase with shots fired.  

Danny Joe Geer, 40, of El Paso and Khilyn Lashae Shouse, 19, of Borger were arrested.  

At about 10:30 Thursday morning, officers in Hale County were pursuing the driver of a pickup truck.  The high-speed vehicle pursuit ended in Northeast Lubbock County near Idalou.  DPS said shots were fired at officers from the truck during the chase.  

Shouse was taken into custody immediately after the vehicle chase.  But the Texas Department of Public Safety said Geer ran from the truck.  Officers were in a standoff with Geer until about 1:15 pm.

Geer was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant.  Shouse was charged with evading in a vehicle. 

The following is a statement from DPS:

On Thursday, 11-09-2017, at approximately 10:30 AM, a Hale County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2012 Chevrolet pickup traveling southbound on FM 789.  While fleeing, one of the two occupants in the pickup shot at the deputy with a shotgun.  The deputy returned fire and initiated a pursuit.  HCSO deputies, THP Troopers, and Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies became involved in the pursuit.  The pursuit terminated near the intersection of CR 3900 and CR 6900 in Lubbock County.  

The 40-year-old white male driver and a 19-year-old white female passenger fled on foot into an adjacent pasture.  The male suspect fired upon law enforcement officers with a shotgun and took a position of cover near some farm implements.   The suspects were later taken into custody.  The male suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to a local hospital by EMS.  

Both suspects have been released to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Both suspects have been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, UUMV and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle. 

The suspects have been identified as Danny Joe Greer Jr, 40, of Sanford, Tx and Khilyn LaShae Shouse, 19, of Borger, Tx

Rangers are conducting the investigation assisted by THP Crash Reconstruction Troopers.

*NOTE: The jail roster spells the male suspect’s name as Geer.  The DPS statement spells it as Greer. Jail records list Geer as being from El Paso.  DPS listed him as a Sanford resident.
