Are you a fan of South Plains politics? Here are your Talking Points for this week.

After last weekend’s frightening battle between white extremists and counter protesters in Virginia, a lot of local governments are taking a second look at their Confederate monuments and whether they should remain in place. These reminders of the Confederacy are literally everywhere in Texas. Lubbock itself is named for a Confederate soldier who was by all accounts staunchly pro-slavery. Someone calling themselves “Time to Change Lubbock” has started an online petition asking Judge Tom Head to remove a statue outside the Lubbock County Courthouse.

There were meetings with local farmers, a letter urging President Trump to support the cotton industry, and now another visit. Senator Ted Cruz has decided he needs the South Plains farm vote. Cruz was in Lubbock on Friday.

We’ll also have a recap all the local, state and national political news.

Talking Points with Bryan Mudd airs each Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday evenings at 11:05 p.m.
