Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that today [Friday] a Roosevelt County Grand Jury indicted Mary Taylor, age 62, of Portales NM; and Sandi Taylor, age 31, of Portales, NM; on charges of First Degree Child Abuse Resulting in Death and First Degree Child Abuse Resulting in Great Bodily Harm. 

The first degree felonies each carry a maximum punishment of 18 years in prison.

The Taylors are accused of leaving two children, under the age of two, unattended in a heated vehicle for almost two hours, at the day care center they operated in Portales, NM.  One child died and the other child is in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital.

The Taylors were arrested on July 25, 2017, and are being held without bond at the Roosevelt County Detention Center, pending Judge Donna Mowrer’s decision on bond or release conditions.

The Taylors will be arraigned on the charges in District Court within 15 days.
