The Texas Department of Public Safety on Monday morning released the name of a teenager who lost her life early Sunday morning in a crash in Garza County.
DPS said Shelby Le’An Sperry, 17, of Amarillo was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash 17 miles southeast of Post.
DPS said a passenger car was traveling west on US Highway 84 approaching a curve when the vehicle traveled straight through the curve into the center median.
Sperry was a passenger in the car.
DPS said the driver, Christy Hubbard Tofflemire 40, of Amarillo, was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries.
Another passenger, Kanyon Robert Bural, 17, of Amarillo, was also transported to UMC with serious injuries.
DPS said, “One passenger was ejected, and two other occupants were pulled from the vehicle before the vehicle caught on fire.”
NOTE: The DPS press release spelled the name of the crash victim as Speery. Information online indicates the spelling is Sperry.
