Several groups at Texas Tech University are hosting events throughout December to help the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities get in the holiday spirit. Below are some of the events.
Carillon Concert
- 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1, West Tower of the Administration Building
- Hosted by the Residence Halls Association
- Thomas Hughes, associate professor of organ, will perform the carillon concert prior to the 59th annual Carol of Lights.

Carol of Lights
- 7 p.m. Dec. 1, Memorial Circle, Engineering Key and the Science Quad
- Hosted by the Residence Halls Association
- The 59th annual Carol of Lights marks the beginning of the holiday season on the Texas Tech campus. Raider Red, the Masked Rider, the Saddle Tramps Torch Light Processional and the High Riders will begin the ceremony at the university seal at the Broadway entrance to campus and follow the luminaria-lighted route around Memorial Circle to the Science Quad. The ceremony will also feature the Texas Tech Trombone Choir and the Texas Tech University Combined Choirs. Professor Gregory Brookes will sing “Oh Holy Night.” Lights will continue to be turned on every day from dusk to midnight from Dec. 2 through Jan. 1, 2018.

Carol Concert
- 8 p.m. Dec. 1, Hemmle Recital Hall
- Hosted by Texas Tech School of Music
- The Texas Tech Matador Singers, University Choir, University Singers and the Women’s Chorale will host their annual Carol Concert after Carol of Lights. Audience members will be provided with printed lyrics in the concert program and are encouraged to sing along with holiday staples. The concert will feature arrangements of traditional carols alongside concert selection by well-known composers. Tickets are $5 for those 18 and under and $10 for the general public, including seniors and non-Texas Tech students. Texas Tech students with a valid student ID will receive free admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door prior to the performance or at the School of Music website.

Junior Rough Riders Winter Corral
- 1-3 p.m. Dec. 2, National Ranching Heritage Center (3121 4th St.)
- Hosted by the National Ranching Heritage Center
- Four times a year, the National Ranching Heritage Center hosts a Saturday activity designed exclusively for children aged 5 to 12. At the Winter Corral, Santa will read to children before they decorate Christmas cookies and make ornaments. The event is free for Ranching Heritage Association members and $5 for non-members. Symphonic Band Holiday Concert
- 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4, Hemmle Recital Hall
- Hosted by the Texas Tech School of Music
- The Texas Tech Symphonic Band will celebrate the holidays in the city and country side with their final concert of the year. Tinsel-trimmed cities and festive lights will be conveyed through the performance which features several selections by well-renowned band composers. The concert is free and open to the public.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra
- 7 p.m. Dec. 7, United Supermarkets Arena
- The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will perform a completely updated presentation of their unforgettable “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve.” Tickets are $48.50 and up and can be bought here.

Weihnachtsfest
- 5-7 p.m. Dec. 8, International Cultural Center (601 Indiana Ave.)
- Hosted by the Office of International Affairs in collaboration with the National Ranching Heritage Center, Classical & Modern Languages & Literature and the J.T. and Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts
- Sponsored in part by a grant from the CH Foundation
- Experience German Christmas traditions including music, crafts, gingerbread cookies and sausage prior to the Candlelight at the Ranch. The first 25 people in attendance will receive a ticket for free hot chocolate redeemable during Candlelight at the Ranch.

39th Annual Candlelight at the Ranch
- 6:30-9 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9, National Ranching Heritage Center (3121 4th St.)
- Hosted by the National Ranching Heritage Center
- Visitors to Candlelight at the Ranch will step into a “living Christmas card” as volunteer Ranch Hosts dress in period-appropriate clothing and recreate Christmas scenes in 15 historic structures dating from the 1780s to the 1950s. Admittance is free, but a donation of $5 is suggested. Enjoy an early entrance and reserved parking from 6-6:30 p.m. by purchasing a VIP ticket for $50 per carload with a maximum of seven people.

The Lubbock Chorale Christmas Concert
- 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8, Hemmle Recital Hall
- The Lubbock Chorale presents “Messiah Singalong and Locklair’s Gloria.” The Chorale will perform a freestanding “Gloria” by contemporary American composer Dan Locklair followed by a performance of the Christmas and nativity portion of Handel’s “Messiah” featuring the “Hallelujah Chorus.” Audience members are invited to sing the choruses. Tuba Christmas
- 3 p.m. Dec. 10, Helen DeVitt Jones Sculpture Court at the Museum of Texas Tech University
- Hosted by the Texas Tech School of Music and the Museum of Texas Tech University
- Carols specially arranged for low brass ensembles will be performed collaboratively by students and community members. Caprock Celtic Christmas
- 7 p.m. Dec. 16, Maedgen Theatre of Texas Tech
- Hosted by the Vernacular Music Center, the J.T. and Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts, the Caprock Celtic Association and the Roots Music Institute
- The theme of the 17th annual Caprock Celtic Christmas is “A Desert Miracle.” Singers, players, dancers, storytellers and more will perform traditional repertoires of the season. The Celtic Christmas has become a Lubbock favorite with adults and kids alike, and advance ticket purchase is strongly advised. Tickets are $10.50 for general admission, $4.50 for seniors and free for Texas Tech students with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased here or at the door. All funds raised benefit the Vernacular Music Center Scholarship at Texas Tech.
