Texas Tech College of Education faculty members were on the Southwest Airlines flight that made an emergency landing Tuesday in Philadelphia after sustaining engine failure.
The College of Education said all the faculty members are safe and on their way back to Lubbock.
In a statement, a Texas Tech spokesman said the university is thankful its faculty members and their families are safe. They extend their thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased passenger and all those affected.
CBS News reported the deceased has been identified as Jennifer Riordan a married mother of two. She worked as a Wells Fargo bank executive from New Mexico.
The Boeing 737, which departed from New York, made its emergency landing around 11:20 a.m. in Philadelphia en route to Dallas Love Field.
One person died after the emergency landing, according to CBS News. At least part of an engine ripped off, and a window was damaged.
CBS News reports at least seven other passengers on Flight 1380 were treated for injuries.
On April 11, the same plane was in Lubbock and departed for Los Angeles, according to FlightAware.
