With temperatures hovering in the triple digits this week, The Salvation Army of Lubbock is prepared to keep vulnerable populations safe and cool through their Beat the Heat campaign.
West Texas residents understand the importance of staying in the shade and keeping hydrated during this extreme weather. However, it is difficult to stay indoors when you’re living on the streets. In order to address this problem, The Salvation Army lobby will transform into a cooling station any time the weather exceeds 98 degrees.
Cooling stations such as The Salvation Army Lubbock help vulnerable populations combat dehydration, heat exhaustion, sunburn, and more. Anyone in need of shade, ice water, and warm weather supplies can visit The Salvation Army at 1614 Avenue J.
If you would like to support this program, please bring unopened water bottles, Frogg Toggs cooling gear, or sunscreen to 1614 Avenue J between 9am and 5pm. The Salvation Army is thankful for the Lubbock community and their continued support of their programs.
