The United Family, long known for being an active community partner, has taken that philosophy to a new level with the launch of a new proactive community impact effort called From Our Family to Yours. An extension of their award-winning UCrew program, From Our Family to Yours is designed to let the company take action and directly impact areas of need young families face in United communities.

The program launched with a mission to impact summer childhood hunger in Lubbock. In partnership with the South Plains Food Bank, more than 40 UCrew volunteers assembled to build 1,000 food boxes destined for Lubbock families who would benefit from extra groceries in the house while children are out of school.

From Our Family to Yours grew from a dawning awareness that we could potentially serve our communities in a different way by creating a proactive program to complement our ongoing support of nonprofit organizations,” said president of The United Family® Robert Taylor. “To see so many individual UCrew store teams come together to fight food insecurity for Lubbock families was an incredible privilege. It reminds me we are blessed to be part of a company that values people and makes a difference like United does.”

Lubbock’s Optimist Boys & Girls Club and Ted Phea Boys & Girls Club welcomed UCrew volunteers periodically throughout the summer to distribute the grocery boxes to summer camp families who received an invitation to take advantage of the program. While on site, UCrew volunteers pitched in at the clubs doing chores, playing games and visiting with the kids and their families.

“Assembling a box of food with your own hands, knowing that box will provide nourishment for boys and girls who might not otherwise be able to eat is real impact,” said Tom Vermillion, Executive Director of the Lubbock Boys & Girls Clubs. “That’s why we love a partnership with the folks at United because we are both committed to finding a need in our community and doing something about it.”

The whole philosophy behind From Our Family to Yours really sums up what The United Family is all about,” said Mary Myers, senior communications and community relations manager. “We happen to be a grocery company but more importantly we are community servants. When we join with other forces for good in our communities, real impact happens. We are proud to work hard to serve families and hope that anyone who has been touched by this program will pay if forward in their own lives.”

The United Family leadership intends for the From Our Family to Yours program to expand into impact areas beyond hunger relief and geographically into the other parts of their trade area.
