Lubbock Police were called to Walmart at 6315 82nd Street on Sunday for the report of a theft.
Police were told a man stole several items and a customer chased the suspect to a home in the 6500 block of 85th Street. Police found someone inside the house, but the person did not match the suspect description.
Police then talked to witnesses in Walmart. Officers were told that the suspect went into the hardware section and took a sledge hammer.
“[The suspect] made his way to the glass jewelry cases,” a police report said. He then hit the glass jewelry case with the sledge hammer, the police report said.
The glass shattered, and the suspect took two handfuls of jewelry. One employee and one customer chased the suspect, but the employee had to stop at the edge of Walmart’s property because of company policy.
As of Tuesday, police had not made any arrests.
