It was a scary situation for one family after Alexis Campos woke up to her kids crying, and smoke filling her house Tuesday morning in the 5500 block of 1st Street.
Her house was on fire, with the smoke blocking the front door.
“I didn’t think anyone was going to hear us, I was so scared that I was shaking,” said Alexis.
Alexis took matters into her own hands, grabbing her kids, and escaping through a window. She said all she could think about in the moment was getting her kids out.
“I was really scared for my kids, I didn’t know how much smoke they had taken in,” said Alexis. “We never thought that this would happen to us, that our house would catch on fire.”
Neither did Marcos Campos, who got the scare of his life when he got a call telling him his house was on fire with his daughter and two grandsons still inside.
“I’d rather something to happen to me, than to ever happen to them,” said Marcos.
He was relieved to find them outside with only minor injuries.
“I don’t know what I would have done if something had happened to my daughter or grandbabies,” said Marcos. “I actually got on my knees and thanked God that they were okay.”
While the Fire Marshall investigates the cause of the fire, Red Cross is helping the family with finding another place to stay.
