The following is a statement from Lubbock ISD:
The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees announced Julia Stephen as the new principal for Coronado High School at their meeting this morning [Thursday morning].
She currently serves as an assistant principal at Irons Middle School and has extensive experience as an assistant/associate principal at the high school and middle school levels.
Stephen joined Lubbock ISD in 2018 after serving as associate principal at Kennedale High School and assistant principal at Kennedale Junior High in Kennedale ISD. She began her teaching career in 1996 as a science teacher/coach in Wichita Falls ISD and has 14 years of teaching and coaching experience. She was named secondary teacher of the year in Mansfield ISD in 2016.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Science, Biology and Kinesiology from Midwestern State University in 1998 and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University in 2014. She has a principal certification, and lifetime certification in secondary (grades 6-12) biology and physical education.
Her husband, Shane, is the athletics coordinator and head football coach at Lubbock High School. They have four children.
Stephen’s predecessor, Dr. Jerry Adams, recently accepted an assistant superintendent’s position in the Comfort ISD.
