TTU K-12, a unit of Texas Tech University’s eLearning & Academic Partnerships, has signed an agreement with St. Nicholas International School in Danang, Vietnam, allowing international students to study an exclusively American curriculum.
The initial group of 56 full-time students, ranging from first through 10th grade, includes not only Vietnamese students, but also Columbian, American, Korean, Spanish and Malaysian students.
The official signing comes just months after TTU K-12 penned an international agreement with the Chinese Academy of Sciences to place several hundred high school students in its dual diploma program. TTU K-12 has had international dual diploma partnerships with schools in Brazil since 1999.
Jared Lay, director of recruitment and international partnerships for eLearning & Academic Partnerships, said by having St. Nicholas as a partner, TTU K-12 full-time students in first through sixth grades will increase roughly 26 percent.
“This is an exciting time, and I think we are on our way to truly having a global impact,” Lay said. “The CEO, teachers and staff at St. Nicholas are very excited and proud to be partners with TTU K-12.”
Representatives from TTU K-12 spent about a week in Danang in August, meeting with St. Nicholas officials to work out details, according to Justin R. Louder, associate vice provost for eLearning & Academic Partnerships.
“From our first class offering in 1993, we have worked with thousands of students all over the world, and this partnership will expand the global educational footprint of TTU K-12,” Louder said. “TTU K-12 is committed to providing high-quality educational offerings to any student, regardless of their location.”
Lay believes the school has the capacity to grow by 40-50 percent in the next year. He also hopes to have the St. Nicholas administration visit Texas Tech within the next year.
“This project and partnership have taken many people and hours, but we’ve launched it,” he said. “It’s truly been a huge team effort.”
