The following is a news release from the TTUHSC:
VIQTORY, a company founded to help veterans transition into civilian life, named Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) to their 2019-2020 list of Military Friendly® Schools and gave TTUHSC a Silver Military Friendly® designation. This prestigious list provides a comprehensive guide of the finest choices for post-secondary education for veterans and their spouses.
TTUHSC’s Office of Student Services Veterans and Military Advising is designated to help military veterans and their families succeed. The office is co-located with the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at the TTUHSC Preston Smith Library.
“We are here to help our military affiliated students navigate their college career and are dedicated to their success,” said Sara Henly, TTUHSC Veterans and Military Advisor/School Certifying Official. “We assist students with the often confusing and time-sensitive process of applying for and using both federal (VA) and state (Hazelwood) benefits.”
TTUHSC is one of 40 Texas schools with a Military Friendly® designation, but it is the state’s only stand-alone health sciences center to make the list. Of the 23 Military Friendly® Schools in Texas which offer health care related programs, TTUHSC has the greatest offering of programs with five schools and programs in baccalaureate, master’s, doctorate and certificate levels.
Institutions earning this designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a propriety survey completed by the school. Methodology, criteria and weightings were determined by VIQTORY with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Only 766 of the 8,800 institutions surveyed earned the designation.
Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students, specifically for student veterans.
The 2019-2020 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May Issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. The list is available at www.militaryfriendly.com.
