The following is a news release from Texas Tech University:
Texas Tech University’s BurkTech Players’ 2017 fall performance tickets are now available. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. November 18-19 in the Escondido Theatre of the Student Union Building.
The BurkTech Payers are a student-run performing arts group composed of students from Texas Tech and the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research that focuses on artistic expression and collaborative performance. The goal of the BurkTech Players is to engage in theatrical productions that elevate the arts in a way that is inclusive and challenges artists to become part of a cooperative narrative.
Since their creation, the BurkTech Players have produced one-act plays, original works and devised performances. This semester, the BurkTech Players examine the complexities of navigating the expectations and complications of everyday life, and this fall the BurkTech Players will showcase two short plays, “Time Flies” and “Captive Audience” by David Ives, two devised works and an original dance piece. The program plans to continue growing and expanding in the coming years.
In their third year, the BurkTech Players have grown tremendously. In addition to their regular end-of-semester production, they have begun a series of workshops geared toward connecting BurkTech to the campus and community at large. Winter Davis, managing director, and Christie Connolly and Sam Shreffler, co-artistic directors, plan to see the program continue to grow and thrive.
“Recruitment and expansion is key,” Davis said. “It is wonderful to the see the development of artists through playwriting and performance, and it is so important to share the stories of our community.”
Tickets for the performances are free and can be reserved through the School of Theatre and Dance box office by calling (806) 742-3603 or online. Ticket reservations are highly encouraged as seating is limited. Please arrive no less than 15 minutes before the production begins to ensure seating. Those with reservations will be given priority seating.
