Lubbock Police shut down the Clovis Road between Avenue U and Vernon Avenue Tuesday morning.  

There was a three-vehicle crash before 8:30 a.m.  The LPD’s Accident Investigation team was called out.  

“The LPD needs the public to avoid the area,” LPD said just before 10:00 a.m.  

A little bit before 11:30, police said on Twitter that the intersection was re-opened.

“One person was taken to the hospital with possibly life threatening injuries,” LPD said on Twitter.

(LUBBOCK, TX) – Lubbock Police Officers were called to Clovis Road and Auburn Street, around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8th, following reports of an accident involving multiple vehicles.

Through the initial investigation, it appears a vehicle driving east bound on Clovis Road veered into the west bound lane, colliding with a vehicle. Following that collision, a third vehicle was hit following the initial crash.

The driver of the vehicle headed east bound was transported via ambulance to UMC with life-threatening injuries.

At this time, Clovis Road between Avenue U and Vernon Avenue is shut down, as accident investigators continue to work the scene.

We ask that drivers avoid the area until further notice.

LPD sent an additional update after 3:30 p.m.:

Lubbock Police Officers were called to Clovis Road and Auburn Street, around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8th, following reports of an accident involving multiple vehicles.

Through the initial investigation, officers were able to determine that a male was headed east bound in the 2100 block of Clovis Road, when the car he was driving veered into the west bound lanes, colliding with a minivan driven by a female.  Following the initial collision, the car was then struck by a separate car, which was also headed west.

The male driver of the passenger vehicle was transported by ambulance to UMC with life-threatening injuries.

The female driver of the minivan was also transported by ambulance to UMC with serious injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
