LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock police took two people into custody after vehicle chase near the Texas Tech campus Thursday afternoon.

Police said the pursuit started just after 1:30 at the Greek Circle which is essentially the 1400 block of Quaker Avenue.   The police desk said that it may have been related to a stolen vehicle.

The pursuit continued in West Lubbock before the suspects left the vehicle and began to run in the 700 block of Bangor Avenue. Police were able to take the two men into custody at 7th Street and Slide Road.

UPDATE 4:15 p.m. – The following is a statement from the Lubbock Police Department:

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a Lubbock police officer spotted a stolen pickup truck on Greek Circle near Quaker Avenue and 14th Street. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to pull over and a short pursuit followed.

The suspects abandoned the pickup at Slide and 11th Street and ran from officers. One suspect was arrested nearby in the 5200 block of 11thStreet. The second suspect was taken into custody in an alley in the  4400 block of 8th Street.

Two stolen guns were also recovered with the stolen pickup truck. The pickup truck was reported stolen on April 23rd, and the owner reported a gun had been left in the pickup at the time it was stolen.  The second gun recovered was reported stolen during a vehicle burglary on March 14th.

Both male suspects will be booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for various charges such as unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading in a motor vehicle, evading on foot, and outstanding warrants.
