The Texas Department of Transportation reported two people were killed following a three vehicle crash in West Lubbock Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 179 and County Road 6520.
A red, black and white pickup truck were involved in the accident, according to the DPS.
Sgt. John Gonzalez told EverythingLubbock.com that one person died at the scene of the accident. A second accident victim died at University Medical Center.
The DPS has identified the the deceased as Ray Peterson, 43, of Lubbock and Daniel Sandoval, 52, of Olton. Peterson was the driver of the black pickup and Sandoval was the driver of the red pickup, DPS said.
Two other occupants in the red truck were injured and taken to a local hospital. These two men were listed in stable condition.
Two adults and three children in the white pickup truck were not seriously injured.
Gonzalez said the black and white trucks were northbound on FM 179. The black truck was attempted to pass while the white truck was attempting to turn onto CR 6520. The two trucks collided. The red pickup truck, pulling a trailer, was southbound on FM 179 and collided head-on with the black pickup truck.
The Lubbock Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and the West Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department and EMS responded to the accident scene.
