The Lubbock Police Department said around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday an officer thought he heard a gunshot from a black Charger near Avenue S and 36th Street.
LPD said the officer began following a car and the vehicle stopped in the area of 32nd Street and Avenue L. The driver then got out of the vehicle.
The officer waited for backup to arrive and when more officers were in the area they tried to arrest the driver but the man jumped back into the vehicle and tried to flee the scene.
While trying to leave the scene, the vehicle hit two trucks and three police units. Police say one of their officers was hit by one of the vehicles the suspect ran into, but we are told the officer did not receive any injuries.
The suspect was last seen going south on the I-27 access road. LPD found the vehicle abandoned at 2025 County Road 7220.
Officials received information a second suspect, a passenger of the charger, possibly jumped into a white Nissan.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter spotted the white Nissan and a chase began.
The second suspect jumped out of the Nissan near University Ave. and 36th Street and ran into a backyard where he was then taken into police custody.
A woman was also found in the Nissan. Both were taken into custody.
LPD said they are still looking for the driver of the initial chase.
