The following is a statement from the Texas Department of Transportation:

Motorists traveling on Business US 84 (Avenue Q) in Lubbock next week will see limited lighting between 38th and 50th Streets as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) continues work on a $1.2 million project to update the lighting along the roadway.

“Both sides of the roadway, between 38th and 50th Streets, work off the same circuit,” said Jeremy Dearing, TxDOT Lubbock District operations engineer. “Crews will have to take the entire segment of lights offline starting Monday, Jan 22. Cutting the lights will allow crews to safely connect the new street lights.”

The daytime work is anticipated to take 2-3 days to complete, weather permitting, but will leave some areas between 38th and 50th Streets with limited overnight lighting until the work is finished.

“Drivers should anticipate various lane closures and are advised to stay alert and minimize distractions when driving through the work zone for their safety and the safety of the workers,” Dearing noted.
