The following is a news release from UMC Health System:
UMC Health System is pleased to announce that we have achieved the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. This distinction recognizes UMC among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
UMC is one of only 12 hospitals in Texas to be named in the top 5 percent and is the only hospital in Lubbock to have this distinction.
“Service separates UMC from our competition, both locally and nationally,” said Aaron Davis, Chief Experience Officer at UMC. “The patient experience is about building a relationship-centered atmosphere that delivers an exceptional experience every time. We could not have achieved this recognition without the diligent efforts of our employees.”
The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. The topics of these questions ranged from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family.
In order to be recognized by Healthgrades, hospitals must meet requirements to be eligible for consideration. Nationally, almost 3,000 hospitals met those requirements, with only 439 hospitals achieving this distinction.
“Patient experience surveys offer important insights about hospitals and their commitment to providing patients with outstanding experience, and furthermore, consumers value that information when making care decisions,” said Brad Bowman, MD,Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have received the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award have received high marks from their most important stakeholders—the patients themselves.”
UMC Health System has developed a strong and enduring culture, adhering to the motto Service is Our Passion, our ‘why.’ This sustains UMC as the employer of choice— consistently ranking among the best places to work in Texas by the Best Companies Group – and the provider of choice – ranking among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient experience by HealthGrades.
