United Blood Services provides lifesaving blood to patients in hospitals throughout this area.
During the Summer, the blood supply at United Blood Services declines and they are in need of blood donations. They use about 135 pints of blood every single day of the year.
Anyone over the age of 16 with a valid ID can donate blood. Every blood donation begins with an interview and a brief medical exam. They use a special blood collection technology and tools to customize the donation process for each donor and to best match the community needs.
Donation times can take anywhere from five to 10 minutes, and anyone can donate up to five times per year. If you can’t make it to United Blood Services they can come to you.
Through their blood mobile, they can go anywhere that has a place to park. Regional Donor Recruitment Manager, Brandon Baker, said they try and make it as easy as possible.
“If you’re a business, a hospital, a school or any place that has people that are interested in donating we can pull right up to you,” Baker said. “It’s kind of a whole self-contained unit. You can go through and do a quick interview and your blood donations and then you’re right back in your office.”
It is free to have the blood mobile come to your business and there is more information at www.unitedbloodservices.org.
