United Family Guests Show Major Support for Hurricane Relief Efforts

Thanks to guests of United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos and a corporate match donation, $406,641 will be disbursed to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. In an emergency company-wide fundraising register campaign, guests from all United Family stores in Texas and New Mexico had the opportunity to add a monetary contribution to their grocery total almost immediately following Harvey’s devastation.

“There are three primary areas where we are uniquely positioned to lend a hand: collecting funds, sending people and delivering donated product,” said Robert Taylor, president of The United Family®. “As we all surveyed the aftermath in disbelief it became immediately clear that our guests felt an overwhelming call to help and we wanted to be a conduit for that generosity. As always, our communities turned out in full force; no questions asked. The United Family is proud to have been a part of such an effort.”

According to the American Red Cross, the organization will be providing financial assistance to Texas households that were severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey and need help taking care of emergency needs. Right now, the American Red Cross is in the early stages of implementing that effort while continuing to assist families who remain in emergency shelters. More information may be found here.

In the early days following the storm, 65 United Family store and support team members volunteered to go to South Texas to work for 1-2 weeks alongside relief effort teams and affected families.

Over the course of the last two weeks, United Family store parking lots have hosted a number of community supply and food drives as well as donated three trailers to make delivery runs. The first donation was a full trailer of bleach; one of the most requested emergency response items. Two additional trailers in partnership with Reagor Dykes Auto Group and RE/MAX delivered thousands of pounds of food, cleaning supplies and water to those affected in the city of Rockport.
