Emergency crews were dispatched to Buffalo Springs Lake early Sunday evening following a boating accident.

The accident was reported around 6:45 p.m., just north of the swimming area at the lake. 

Captain Aryn Corley, a game warden with Texas Parks and Wildlife, confirmed two boats did collided on the lake.

At least 9 people were transported to the hospital in Lubbock. 

A spokesman for University Medical Center reported they received at least six accident victims. The hospital said two of the patients had been released as of Monday afternoon. 

Corley said a passenger from one of the boats, a child, was missing. Authorities continued to search for the child on Monday afternoon. The age of the child was not confirmed.

Authorities have not released the names of the accident victims or the missing child. 

Buffalo Springs Lake and Ransom Canyon first responders, as well as the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, UMC EMS, AeroCare and Texas Parks and Wildlife responded to the scene.

A dive team from Lubbock Fire Rescue also was dispatched to the lake.  

EverythingLubbock.com spoke to several witnesses who said they saw the accident. Those witnesses  said the boats appeared to have been speeding.

Corley said alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this point.

Authorities were still investigating the accident Monday morning.
