UPDATE: Power has been restored to all customers at this time. Due to the severity of the equipment damage, crews will be working throughout the night at the substation to continue repairs. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers, especially in this heat, and we appreciate your patience while crews worked to get everyone back up and running.
UPDATE: The root cause of the outage is a damaged section of underground line coming out of the McCullough substation. Crews are continuing to work on the damaged equipment to restore service to affected customers. We understand this is a major inconvenience and are working on solutions to bring customers back up as quickly as possible.
The following is a statement from LP&L which was updated shortly after 4 p.m.:
OUTAGE ALERT: 2,159 customers in Central Lubbock are currently experiencing an interruption of service. Crews have been dispatched to the substation that serves that portion of the service territory in order to locate the cause and safely restore power to affected customers. We will provide an update as to the cause and estimated time of full restoration as soon as we can. We understand the importance of a quick restoration of power this time of year. Thank you for your patience as crews complete their work.
LPD said in part, “Crews have been dispatched to isolate the problem. Please do not call 911 as the influx in calls hinders the response to emergency situations.”
