Lubbock Police on Monday morning released the name of a man who was shot and killed Sunday night at 98th Street and Avenue V.
Police publicly identified him as Peter Caballero, 20.
Police said, “Caballero was on foot chasing a suspect in a blue passenger car who had reportedly just robbed his friend in the area of 2200 99th Street.”
Police also said, “At some point, multiple shots were fired out of the vehicle toward Caballero and another friend.”
Caballero was hit by the gunfire and later died at a Lubbock hospital.

Detectives with the Lubbock Police Department Persons Crimes Unit are investigating a shooting that turned fatal Sunday night.
On November 26, just before 7:30 p.m., LPD received multiple calls that a shooting had just occurred on Avenue V near 98th Street. Officers located a male gunshot victim on scene. He was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators with the LPD Persons Crimes Unit responded to the scene. Through their initial investigation, it appears the incident began as a robbery.
The suspect met with a male in the area of 2200 99th Street for an exchange, possibly for an item posted to social media. At some point during the exchange, there was an altercation and the suspect fled the scene in a blue passenger car. The male and a friend began running after the suspect’s car.
Officers were advised that the suspect fired shots from the vehicle, striking the friend on Avenue V near 98th Street.
The suspect has not been located at this time. Investigators are still working to get more information on the suspect’s physical description and vehicle description.
