Congressman Jodey Arrington of Lubbock released the following statement:
“My heart is broken over the loss of my dear friend and former Lubbock City Councilman, David Nelson, and for his wife Ainsley. David was one of the most kind, thoughtful, and loyal people I’ve ever known. He was passionate about his family; baseball and physical fitness; and serving Lubbock, Texas. My thoughts are with Ainsley, Jack, Jill, and his entire family, as I cannot fathom their grief. There are those who talk about their faith and others who just quietly and diligently live it. David was the latter, and I’m confident the Lord has reserved a special place in heaven for him.”
The Lubbock County Commissioner’s Court said:

The leadership of the Lubbock County Republican Party will nominate the candidate to fill this untimely opening.
The mayor released this statement:
Lubbock lost a great man this morning. Judge-elect David Nelson was a good friend. He served
our community well in many roles, including his time on our City Council. I will remember his
encouragement, his laugh, and his love for baseball.
