Voters approved the Lubbock Independent School District bond by a vote of 74.83 percent to 25.17 percent, according to the Lubbock County Elections Office.
In early voting, 27,911 votes were cast in support of the bond for 74-percent approval. With Election Day results included, a total of 36,081 voters approved the bond. Results showed 12,136 voted against the proposition.
Kathy Rollo, superintendent of LISD, said she appreciated the community’s support and expects construction to begin in January.
“We are just so so grateful for the support of our community,” she said. “It is an investment in our children and an investment in our future. So thank you, thank you to the community for their support.”
The $130 million bond will allow consolidation of three North Lubbock elementary schools into one. The new school would hold up to 700 students.
The three elementary schools to be consolidated are Guadalupe, Jackson and Wright.
The money would also be used for improvements to existing schools and security.
