Lubbock Police on Wednesday held a press conference about a body found at 44th Street and Magnolia Avenue.
Chief Greg Stevens said someone called in the tip, which ended up being a crucial component to making headway in the case.
“We did receive information from the public, certainly our patrol officers first were notified yesterday, so that’s really what got us into this,” Stevens said. “There’s always that little bit of information that’s out there that somebody know that they may think is not important, but it’s always those kinds of things that break a case open.”
The body was identified as Jacob Wayne Duffee, 30, of Levelland. Duffee was last seen on September 29, and he was listed as a missing person with Levelland Police in early October.
Oscar Diaz Cerna, 23, of Lubbock was arrested Tuesday evening – a few hours after the body was found.
Stevens said the investigation will continue until they’re able to determine when and where Duffee was killed.
“We’re going to keep investigating this in a very collective and collaborative effort, and provide to the district attorney’s office a very solid product to which they can carry forward.”
