PLAINVIEW, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) — The following is a news release from the Wayland Baptist University:
Wayland Baptist University will begin the process of re-opening its campuses for employees and to the public beginning May 18. Precautions have been outlined and sent to employees and students via the Wayland email system.
The process for opening includes safety precautions for employees, students and individuals visiting the campuses. All staff, faculty and adjunct faculty are required to complete a health screening survey prior to returning to campus. Students taking classes in May or during summer sessions, are required to complete the health survey prior to entering campus. The health screening survey can be found at wbu.edu/notification.htm.
Faculty, staff and students will also be required to follow these guidelines:
· Campus buildings will have a single, unlocked point of entry. Each building will have someone at the point of entry to administer the health survey and monitor access.
· Visitors must fill out a paper health survey prior to entering the facility. Faculty, staff and students will not be required to complete duplicate surveys.
· All employees, students and visitors will be required to wear face coverings while on campus.
· Employees and students using exercise equipment in the Laney Center on the Plainview campus will be required to wear gloves that fully cover from the wrist to the fingers.
On the Plainview campus, buildings open for public access for the May and summer sessions will be Gates Hall, McClung University Center and the library. Other buildings will be open throughout the summer based on class schedules. The Laney Student Activities Center will be open for employees and current students but will not be open for public access.
Employees or students experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 exposure are encouraged to stay at home. Refusal to do so could result in student/employee conduct sanctions. Symptoms include:
· Cough
· Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
· Chills
· Repeated shaking with chills
· Muscle pain
· Headache
· Sore throat
· Loss of taste or smell
· Diarrhea
· Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100 degrees
· Known close contact with a person who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19
Health and safety are personal responsibilities. Individuals are encouraged to adhere to the CDC guidelines for hygiene, including washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and maintaining social distancing. Wayland strives to provide a safe environment for all who are on campus and will continue to clean and disinfect facilities and public spaces according to CDC standards.
Wayland Baptist University is based in Plainview and operates campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, Wichita Falls and San Antonio, along with Altus, Okla., Clovis and Albuquerque, NM, Phoenix and Sierra Vista, Ariz., Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska, and Kapolei, Hawaii.
