Volunteer firefighters from Slaton and Buffalo Springs were called to Highway 84 and County Road 7260 Friday afternoon at about 3:30.

Later, Roosevelt and Woodrow VFDs were asked to help as well.

Mary Leathers, with the Texas A&M Forest Service, said, “An eyewitness said that he heard an explosion and saw flames.”

“We’re looking at approximately 20 acres that’s been involved,” Leathers said.  At the time Leathers spoke, the fire was 80 percent contained.

There was a report of an RV fire, however, the exact nature of the fire has not been officially confirmed yet. The fire spread to nearby dry grass.  An update will be provided when possible.

Leathers said six homes and three businesses were “threatened and saved.”
