First responders on Thursday were called to 29th Street and North Columbia Street in Plainview for the report of a pedestrian accident with a train. The call was about 8:30 a.m. according to Plainview Police.
Police on Thursday afternoon provided an update with the name of the victim who died. She was identified as Shannon Denice Clayborn, 46, of Lubbock.
Joseph Faust, the director of Public Affairs with Burlington Northern Santa Fe, said the lead engine had a camera on the train, and the railway will work with authorities to figure out what happened.
For a time, the train stopped and was blocking east-west traffic at the 24th Street intersection, according to the Plainview Herald.
Faust said the train was released at 11:00 a.m. and the line is back open.
Before noon, the City of Plainview released the following information:
On 07/19/2018 at about 0831 hours Officers of the Plainview Police Department were dispatched to the 2800 Block of N. Columbia in reference to an accident, involving a train and a pedestrian. Officers arrived to find that a pedestrian had been struck by a Burlington Northern train, which was northbound. The pedestrian was later pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace, Sheron Collins and an autopsy was ordered.
At this time the accident is under investigation and we are working on notifying the family.
