Xcel Energy released a statement Thursday morning concerning a lineman who lost his life on Wednesday night.

Xcel said, “Our thoughts are with the family of the line worker who lost his life Wednesday evening while working to restore power in Hereford, Texas. We are working with authorities to determine the cause of the incident and are committed to supporting our employee’s family and coworkers during this difficult time.”

Specific details have not been released yet.

As of Wednesday night, 121,000 homes or businesses in the Xcel service territory had power interrupted at some point by high winds.

Also, on Wednesday night, Xcel said, “This has been one of the worst wind storms to impact our system in years. We are still assessing damage and anticipate a full restoration could take several days.”

Separately, Lubbock Power and Light and South Plains Electric Cooperative on Thursday still had a few outages scattered across their territories.
