District 19 congressional candidate Jodey Arrington, State Senator Charles Perry and State Representative Dustin Burrows released statements Monday morning follow the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Texas House Bill 2.
Statement from Jodey Arrington:
“I am thoroughly disappointed by another liberal Supreme Court decision today. The Court has repeatedly chosen to erode State’s rights, making defending the lives of the innocent even more difficult. This decision damages the ability to ensure Texans are receiving the best and safest medical care. I believe that life is a gift from God, and that life begins at conception. Our unborn children have a right to life. As your next Congressman, I will passionately defend the sanctity of life.”
Statement from State Senator Charles Perry:
“Today 5 activist judges on the Supreme Court struck down key provisions of Texas’ pro-life omnibus bill. This law not only protected unborn life, but required that doctors be qualified when providing life threatening procedures and that these procedures be done in a safe environment.
As we approach 60 million state-sanctioned abortions since Roe v. Wade, I continue to pray for the soul of our nation and that the people of this country will not allow the government to continue to devalue life.
This fight is not over, next session we will revisit this issue to ensure both women and unborn children are protected.”
Statement from State Representative Dustin Burrows:
“I am very disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision that abortions do not need to be at medically safe clinics; or, that abortion doctors don’t need to be qualified to practice at local hospitals. I agree with Justice Thomas that today’s ruling “exemplifies the Court’s troubling tendency to bend the rules when any effort to limit abortion, or even to speak in opposition to abortion, is at issue.” This decision will be remembered as a clear case of judicial activism where the Court completely disregarded its obligation to apply the rules in a neutral fashion, regardless of personal political beliefs.”
