The Parks Advisory Board said capital project requests for local parks are being ignored by Lubbock City Council.

“For the past couple of years, city council has not been funding capital improvements here in the parks department,” Parks Advisory Board Volunteer Susan Tomlinson said. “They fund basic maintenance but as far as some of the parks’ projects that we consider vital and necessary, they’re not funding those.”

By capital projects, Tomlinson said those are items like wild flower trails, dog parks, and new infiltration and fencing for local pools.

EverythingLubbock.com left voicemails to members of city council and Mayor Dan Pope. Those calls were not returned Wednesday.

District 6 City Council Member Latrelle Joy told KLBK and EverythingLubbock.com that some of the council has talked about these requests, but haven’t seen specific requests on the city council agenda.

“These are not items that should go unnoticed,” Tomlinson said. “We are asking that the city council take note that the parks advisory board is concerned about this. And that we would like to see some improvement and some forward thinking vision.”
